Basic LTE Design and Optimization Techniques

Overview:

The LTE system supports broadband wireless access in a mobile cellular environment, offering data rates in the range of 100 Mbps. These enhancements are based on several fundamental pillars: a new air interface (OFDM+MIMO), simplified network architecture and efficient air interface structure and signaling mechanisms.

This workshop covers the radio network planning and design aspects of an LTE network and describes the process of mapping the service and market requirements to RF system parameters. It will also provide some insight on LTE hardware as well as how to check site configuration using OSS tools and test the newly launched network by doing site shakedown as well as drive testing to find problems with the sites.

Objectives:
After completing this workshop, the participants will be able to:
Describe the history and motivation for LTE
Describe the network architecture of LTE/EPC (Evolved Packet Core)
Describe LTE radio technologies of OFDM and MIMO
Describe the new antenna techniques used in LTE

Compare the key differences between LTE and CDMA
Identify key considerations for deploying LTE networks
Explain the process of radio network planning and design
Describe the frame structure, DL and UL channels and key measurements
like RSRP and RSRQ of the LTE air interface
link budget for the LTE system
Step through the coverage prediction and site selection process
List and describe key configuration and operational parameters
Identify the key performance indicators of LTE radio network
List and go over the site shakedown/drive test process for accepting the newly launched LTE network.
Review key hardware components of LTE system
Review some of the OSS functionality for LTE system

Target Population:
This workshop provides practical examples and intertwines the exercises
at every stage of the RF planning and design process and is intended for
LTE system designers, RF systems engineering, network engineering,
deployment and operations personnel.
